The Art of Doing Nothing

I saw a nice piece on laziness recently. It's a great thing , to know when to be idle.

The best cars are left to idle in neutral. They settle and even out. They tick over and let themselves be observed, analyzed, for any rough edges. This shows where they need tuning, where the revs might be a bit too high, or where there's a cough, or maybe an occasional splutter. Timing might need adjustment. Carbs might need balancing.

The workings can then be adjusted, fine-tuned and balanced. And when you take her out again,  you can drive hard and the engine's smooth, the gears synchronize, and the fuel gets used as it's meant to. When you put your foot down, the power kicks in and you press against the back of the seat.  Or you can cruise, smoothly and steadily, taking your time. But you know that if you need it, you can tramp on the pedal and take off.

Doesn't that teach us something? We'll do all that for the car and take pride in our achievement.

How about the same respect and care for the body, the mind, the spirit? All it takes is a decision.
