A prolific writer of books and articles, David Hegarty has had four novels published, and is currently working his way through a fifth.

David Hegarty spent the first 8 years of his life, 1944-1952, in the South East Coast fishing village, Kilmore Quay, in County Wexford.
He has always regarded that place as his place of origin, and his spiritual home.
He has always regarded that place as his place of origin, and his spiritual home.
The white house, to the right of the church in the photo, is where he lived. It overlooked the harbour, where the sea stretched out to, and beyond, the Saltee Islands.
It has developed from a remote village of those earlier days into a popular and well-served commercial fishing community, and a beauty spot that is rapidly gathering fame in Ireland and abroad. It has also influenced the locations of Hegarty's novels, the sea, boats of all kinds, and the men who go out in them, providing large background canvass for his action stories.

SYNOPSIS
Dublin city operator Denis Murphy finds himself walking this line when an associate, Freddie Locke, asks for his help on a deal he’s doing, selling smuggled whiskey, an occasional and profitable practice.
During the exchange, Murphy realizes that there is something different about the men they’re dealing with.
These are organized career criminals.
And a double cross has been set in motion.
These men are vicious, sharp, and efficient at what they do.
Freddie is shot, wounded, and robbed of the money he’d been given whilst Murphy finds himself brought to a remote house in the country where the criminals debate what to do with him.
He escapes in the early hours of the following morning.
Now, the hunt is on for Murphy.
The villains want him to shut him up and the police want him for questioning about the near fatal shooting of his friend.
Driven underground, Murphy becomes as ingenious and as focused as his adversaries.
And he wants his and Freddie’s money back…
The criminals find that they are not dealing with the guileless innocent they had thought, so they decide to meet and form an uneasy alliance.
The breadth of the villains’ influence is revealed to Murphy and he understands their system.
But it’s not for him.
He knows he can’t beat them. Nor does he wish to join them.
And so, he faces the full wrath of criminal activity, an extended paramilitary empire, and a quagmire of corruption.
In a tumultuous frenzy of action and double-dealing on all sides, Murphy makes, and chooses, his own means to survive.
But does he have a choice?
Double Cross is a gripping thriller that will make you question the very nature of right and wrong.

’A good read on a cold night.’ - Sunday Press
SYNOPSIS:
In all of Ireland, it seems there is no more beautiful or peaceful place than the tranquil fishing village of Rinnemor… The rest of the country might be in political upheaval, with the IRA a constant disruption to life, but Rinnemor has always remained in the eye of Ireland’s terrorist tornado. With the arrival of a short, two-day storm, however, all that is about to change… Sean Doyle and his wife Eileen are pillars of the Rinnemor community, and with the purchase of a new trawler they are set to blaze a trail into the future of the fishing industry. But even the most successful pillars have secrets to hide. For the Doyles, that secret is Steven Cullen, Eileen’s brother and the black sheep of the family, whose involvement with the IRA has landed him in more hot water than he’d care to admit. Recently escaped from prison, Cullen is on the run from the British and Irish governments as well as the IRA, and his only hope for escape lies with Sean’s trawler and a rendezvous with disreputable and malicious Frenchman Marcel Gustav. But Cullen’s flight to freedom is cut abruptly short when he is betrayed — and instead of the liberty of the French coast, he finds himself being driven back towards the source of all his problems. And those problems are about to rain a world of troubles down on the heads of Sean and Eileen Doyle…
