Amid all the doom and gloom, and we have to see it, as it's justified, here's a note about a sphere of life in which much is going on, despite the state of the nation.
The hurling men and women are still at it. They never stopped. Even in the depth of Lock-down, these men and women were plying their craft, honing their skills, keeping the bodies in shape, and readying for the days when they streamed out on to the pitches again, up and down the country. In every corner of the land, these dedicated, committed, and skilled warriors of sport were keeping the game, and our hopes, and memories, alive.
Now, let's hope we can show them, and the Front Line Workers, the respect they deserve, and play our game with the same earnestness and purpose and belief, and practise our skills of hand washing, distancing , mask wearing and any of the other protocols that have been so recklessly flouted over the past few weeks...
I've heard it said that the strength of a country is the sum of the strength of the men and women in it.
Now is a good time to test the strength, follow the guidelines and the laws, and make sure that if it's true that a community earns its security, that we'll not only earn it, but deserve it.
